Free Paragraph Counter

Count the paragraphs in any text, with sentences and words per paragraph in view. Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Paragraph counter

Why use this paragraph counter?

Blank lines, not line breaks

A paragraph break is a blank line. Soft wraps and single newlines inside a paragraph do not inflate the count the way a naive line count does.

Sentences alongside

The sentence count sits next to the paragraph count, so the sentences-per-paragraph ratio is there when you need it.

Live as you type

Every count updates on each keystroke, so you can restructure toward a target rather than pasting repeatedly.

Nothing is uploaded

All counting happens in your browser. Your text never reaches a server.

How to use the paragraph counter

  1. Paste your text

Keep the blank lines between paragraphs — that is what the counter reads.

  2. Read the paragraph count

It leads the statistics panel, with sentences, words and reading time below.

  3. Restructure if needed

Split or merge paragraphs in place and watch the count and the sentences-per-paragraph ratio change.

About this paragraph counter

A paragraph counter is only accurate if it knows what a paragraph is. Counting lines gets it wrong the moment text soft-wraps or a stray newline appears mid-sentence. This counter treats a blank line as the paragraph break — the same convention every word processor and Markdown renderer uses — and ignores empty blocks, so trailing whitespace does not inflate the total.

The count is most useful next to the others. Essay guidance is usually expressed as sentences or words per paragraph, so the panel shows all three: paragraphs, sentences and words, updating live. If a paragraph is running to nine sentences, the ratio makes that visible before a reader has to suffer it.

Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. If a paragraph turns out to need rebuilding rather than splitting, the paragraph rewriter will restructure it for you.
